A pen can still move the cursor perfectly while pressure sensitivity fails completely. In other cases, pressure works for several minutes and then suddenly becomes flat, jumps to maximum, or disappears only inside one drawing application.
Those symptoms may look similar on the canvas, but they point to different parts of the input chain. The fastest solution is to determine where pressure data stops being received.

First, Identify the Type of Failure

Modern browsers can receive stylus-pressure data when the operating system, browser and pen device expose it. Draw in the area below while gradually moving from very light to heavier pressure.
Live Stylus Pressure Test
This test does not replace the manufacturer’s diagnostic tool, but it can provide another useful comparison point.
Browser, operating-system and device support can affect whether pressure reaches a web page. Compare the result with the manufacturer’s own driver pressure test.
The Driver Test Is the Most Useful Split Point
Both Wacom and Huion provide ways to verify pressure at the driver level. This is valuable because it separates the hardware-and-driver side from the drawing application.

If Only One Application Fails, Do Not Reinstall Everything Yet
Huion’s current troubleshooting guidance specifically recommends testing another drawing program. Wacom gives similar guidance and notes that many applications require pressure support to be enabled within the application.
Start with the brush itself. Some brushes deliberately ignore pressure for size, opacity or flow.
Then create a simple test brush where pressure clearly controls one property such as brush diameter.
Application-side checks
- Confirm that the selected brush actually uses pressure.
- Test a default pressure-sensitive brush.
- Check whether the application has a tablet-input setting.
- Test a new document with default application settings.
- Compare the same pen in another pressure-aware application.
Windows Ink and Wintab Can Explain App-Specific Problems
On Windows, professional drawing software may receive pen information through different input paths.
Windows Ink itself supports variable pen-pressure data. Microsoft documents pressure as part of the information that Windows applications can receive from a stylus.
Some tablet drivers and professional applications also support Wintab workflows. A mismatch between the mode expected by the application and the mode configured in the tablet driver can therefore create a situation where cursor movement works but pressure does not.
Wacom currently notes that applications using Windows Ink should have Windows Ink enabled in the driver. Its support documentation specifically identifies current Photoshop configurations as an example where Windows Ink is used for pen pressure.
Do not disable or enable an input system globally just to repair one program if the other applications are already working correctly.
Reset the Pressure Curve Before Blaming the Pen
A heavily customized pressure curve can make a functioning stylus feel defective.
For example, an extremely hard curve may require much more physical force before the brush grows noticeably. An extremely sensitive curve may reach maximum pressure too early.
Huion’s current driver provides both pressure-curve adjustment and a pressure-test area so the response can be evaluated before returning to the drawing application.

Check the Nib When Pressure Acts Mechanically Wrong
A pen that draws before touching the surface, remains “pressed” after lifting, or suddenly produces unusually strong input may have a different problem from software that simply ignores pressure.
Wacom’s current troubleshooting documentation associates continuously active pressure with the pen’s pressure sensor and recommends checking the pen and nib. Huion likewise recommends checking or replacing the nib during pen troubleshooting.
Use the replacement and diagnostic procedure specified for the exact pen model. Pens that look nearly identical are not always interchangeable.
Huion currently warns that different product generations can use incompatible pen technologies. An incompatible replacement pen can result in incorrect or reversed pressure behavior.
If Pressure Suddenly Stopped After Working Normally
A sudden failure deserves a different response from a device that has never worked correctly.
Wacom’s current troubleshooting sequence recommends restarting the driver and computer, checking application settings and confirming the behavior through its diagnostic tools. Huion also recommends checking driver installation and comparing behavior across applications.
Before reinstalling, note what changed:
- operating-system update;
- tablet-driver update;
- drawing-application update;
- new pen or replacement nib;
- new USB hub, dock or connection;
- new plugin or application-specific configuration.
That information often narrows the problem much faster than repeatedly reinstalling software.
When a Clean Driver Reinstall Makes Sense
If the manufacturer’s own pressure test is unreliable, the device is detected inconsistently, or the problem appears across several applications, a clean driver reinstall becomes a reasonable next step.
Download the appropriate driver from the manufacturer rather than from third-party driver websites. Remove the previous installation using the manufacturer’s documented procedure, restart when instructed and test the pen before restoring complicated custom settings.
After reinstalling
- Test with the default pressure curve first.
- Use a default pressure-sensitive brush.
- Confirm the driver recognizes the correct device.
- Test before importing old tablet preferences.
- Compare more than one application if the problem remains.
Know When to Stop Troubleshooting Software
If pressure fails in the manufacturer’s diagnostic test, survives a clean driver installation and behaves the same way on another compatible computer, hardware becomes a stronger suspect.
At that point, continued changes to Photoshop, Windows Ink or brush settings are unlikely to solve the underlying problem.
test pressure as early in the signal chain as possible. If the driver receives pressure correctly, move toward the application. If the driver cannot see it either, move toward the pen, connection and hardware.
